AmaZulu rallied from a goal down to force a 1-1 draw with Orlando Pirates in an Absa Premiership clash.
Pirates made a few changes from their midweek encounter. In goal, Jackson Mabokgwane made his first appearance this season and Innocent Maela returned for Paseka Mako.
Bucs took an early lead after Thembinkosi Lorch expertly picked out Augustine Mulenga to riffle into the roof of the net on 14 minutes.
Despite a promising start, Usuthu were unable to dust themselves up again with the visitors taking complete control.
Argentine forward Emiliano Tade showed good touches through the box and managed to get goal-side only to see his shot blocked off by strong defending closer to halftime.
In the 38th minute, Xola Mlambo found space outside the box to hit a half-volley which Siyabonga Mbatha managed to punch away from danger.
Just before the break, Justin Shonga tossed and turned inside the box only to flash way off target after attempting to find the far post.
The Buccaneers made their first change at the start of the second half. Diamond Thopola came in place of Ntsikelelo Nyauza.
Usuthu responded with the equaliser from Tade after Jabulani Ncubeni break through from out wide through the box.
Bucs were able to beat the offside trap for the second time in the game and it was Shonga this time running straight through but failed to beat Mbatha.
On 58 minutes, Tade’s free-kick was plugged out of the air by Mabokgwane while minutes later he denied Ntuli from point-blank range.
Shonga nearly lifted the big crowd when he rattled the post following a cross from the left side after 60 minutes.
Within two minutes, the momentum sprung back to Usuthu when Nhlanhla Vilakazi side-footer brought a good save out of Mabokgwane.
Cavin Johnson introduced his first change with Siyathemba Sithebe on for Ovidy Karuru. The curse for Shonga continued after seeing his shot go out for a throw-in than hitting the net.
Tade was proving to be a handful, particularly from set-pieces and brought another outstanding save from Mabokgwane with another free-kick.
In the final few minutes, there was a few half-chances propping up but that’s all it got for both sides to finding the net as the clash ended in a stalemate.
