Absa Premiership match report Bloemfontein Celtic v Baroka 28 October 2018

Posted: 28 October 2018 Time: 13:21

Bloemfontein Celtic secured a last-gasp winner over Baroka FC to grab a 1-0 win to move back into the top-five in the Absa Premiership.

Following three successive defeats, Celtic grabbed the early momentum when Victor Letsoalo drew a point-blank save from Elvis Chipezeze.

Soon, it was Lorenzo Gordinho at the far post aiming to hit on the half-volley but Chipezeze again produced a blank save.

Baroka cropped up a few half-openings but it was nothing worth noting as Patrick Tignyemb’s defence kept a good defensive line.

Celtic then tried to create something out of nothing after good intentions from Menzi Masuku to flick a ball over the defence but Letsoalo in anguish ballooned way off goal.

The Limpopo side still asked the necessary questions closer to halftime, but lacked the killer approach to innovate effectively through the defensive third.

The Free State side started the second half with the same intensity as the first, creating a few half-chances.

After 54 minutes, Neo Maema came on for them to replace Kabelo Dlamini as the first change of the bench in the game.

Baroka responded with their first change, as Mpho Kgaswane took the spot of Kabelo Dlamini minutes later.

With both sides producing limited goal-scoring opportunities, the game went into a dire spell towards the final quarter.

The braveness of Chipezeze came to the fore later on when punching clear a free-kick from Ndumiso Mabena.

In the final few minutes, Bakgaga nearly stole the points with a shot from Ranca Chivaviro hitting the top of the post despite a meaningful effort from Tignymeb to try and cover the danger.

In the end, Celtic grabbed the winner at the death from Ronald Pfumbadzai after finishing off a one-two move at the near post for a big three points.
