Absa Premiership match report Kaizer Chiefs v Black Leopards 07 November 2018

Posted: 7 November 2018 Time: 17:48

Kaizer Chiefs got back to winning ways in the Absa Premiership with a narrow 1-0 victory over Black Leopards at the FNB Stadium.

Mwape Musonda had a great chance to grab the lead for Lidoda Duvha in the sixth minute after beating the offside trap, but his low strike was saved by Amakhosi goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

Khune was brought into action again three minutes later as he denied Phathutshedzo Nange, who unleashed a low strike from the left side of the box into the near post.

Khama Billiat almost sensationally broke the deadlock for Giovanni Solinas’ charges in the 18th minute with a volleyed effort from the D-line that sailed over the bar.

Lesedi Kapinga almost got the breakthrough for Joel Masutha’s men in the 32nd minute lurking on the blind side and got inside the box but his strike was brilliantly smothered by Khune.

The deadlock was eventually broken four minutes before the break, as Willard Katsande headed in at the far post following a flick by Ramahlwe Mphahlele from a corner, 1-0.

Leopards were threatening to find the equaliser in the closing minutes of the half but Chiefs managed to hold on and went into the break leading by an odd goal.

Lifa Hlongwane was unlucky not to have equalised for Lidoda Duvha ten minutes into the second stanza after an error at the back, but Hlongwane’s attempted lob sailed over the bar with the net gaping.

Leopards were threatening to get back into the game towards the 65th minute, putting the Chiefs defence under a lot of pressure.

Eden Nene almost levelled matters for the visitors 15 minutes before time with a close range strike that was brilliantly saved by Khune in a goal-mouth scramble following a corner.

Bhongolwethu Jayiya had a glorious chance to make it 2-0 for the Glamour Boys ten minutes before time after he was picked out at the far post, but he struck his effort wide with only Ndlovu to beat.

Marks Munyai almost equalised for Leopards two minutes before time with a free-kick from the edge of the box that was saved by Khune in the top corner, as the AmaKhosi held on for three points.
