Kaizer Chiefs were let off the hook by Chippa United in a goalless draw after the latter squandered numerous chances in their Absa Premiership clash.
Serving the last of their two-match stadium ban, Chiefs welcomed the return of centre-back Siyabonga Ngezana to replace Teenage Hadebe and resume partnership with Mario Booysen.
Chippa started decently and nearly went in front after Itumeleng Khune was caught out of position led Thabo Rakhale’s shot on the turn cleared off the line on five minutes.
It was a case of revenge for the visitors, but the best chances still fell to the Chilli Boys when Lerato Manzini missed a golden opportunity in front of goal with a tame effort at Khune on 25 minutes.
The Amakhosi constructed a few openings none more than George Maluleka’s pile driver getting Daniel Akpeyi to a finger-tip save.
Just as the second half was set to resume, both sides engaged into substitutions with Chiefs firstly bringing on Daniel Cardoso for Booysen while Tercious Malepe went out for Miguel Timm.
Chippa looked promising on the counterattack just as the first spell and broke through again with Rakhale breaking away but Khune came out to close the angle for a corner.
From the corner, Manzini tried to made amends for his earlier miss with an instinctive header towards goal but Ngezana thwarted them with a goal-line clearance.
Khune was the bussier of the two goalkeepers early on as Manzini was at the end of another chance but the outstretched hand prevented him from finding the bottom corner.
The Chilli Boys sustained the bits of pressure coming their way from the Glamour Boys, but still forced a few chances with Chris Komane drawing a finger-tip from Khune.
Chiefs struggled to create any openings, with Chippa finding the best openings. In the final stages, with few openings on either end the game ended goalless.
