Absa Premiership match report Bidvest Wits v Bloemfontein Celtic 10 November 2018

Posted: 10 November 2018 Time: 18:36

Bloemfontein Celtic came from a goal down to edge a ten-man Bidvest Wits 2-1 in an Absa Premiership clash.

Wits needed to make up ground on leaders Orlando Pirates who were held at home by Mamelodi Sundowns in the afternoon showdown.

But Celtic showed them other things and didn’t made it easy for them with a good start leading to a few scary moments.

Wits though managed to reduce Patrick Tignyemb to finger-tip heroics as the latter acrobatically threaded off Deon Hotto’s shot from the edge of the box.

As such, Victor Letsoalo was sent one-on-one with Darren Keet but the former couldn’t make it count with a horrendous miss after the half and hour spell.

Within seconds, Scotsman Simon Murray attempted the spectacular with a shot from the halfway line however Tignyemb rallied to keep him at bay.

In the second half, Wits made an early right before the restart as Deon Hotto made way for subsequent injury for former Orlando Pirates man Gift Motupa.

In light of this, the Braamfontein side became more telling and promising creating a few half-chances near the edge of the box.

A nicely dipped free-kick from Thabang Monare forced Tignyemb to do another finger-tip save after 53 minutes.

The Students broke the deadlock with a well-taken free-kick from Haashim Domingo cracking off the underside of the crossbar to give Tignyemb no chances after four minutes.

Celtic could’ve drawn level after only six minutes, but a rush of blood to the head from Ronald Pfumbadzai saw them missed that prerogative.

Steve Komphela made his first substitution. Their top scorer Tshegofatso Mabasa was called upon to try and revive their fire power upfront.

Siwelele’s Lantshene Phalane cracking the top of the upright which hit the backside of Keet with Mabasa bundled off the ball by Robyn Johannes who was rightly dismissed for the incident.

With a penalty awarded closer to fulltime, the self-same Mabasa stepped forward to convert with resounding ease to level matters.

Trailing and man down, further misery struck the Clever Boys with Mabasa beating the offside trap to round an on-rushing Keet for an easy finish.

There was time for late drama when Menzi Masuku attempted to find the empty after Keet surged forward for a corner but missed the target.

Wits closed in on the leveller with a shot from outside the box from Motupa needing Tignyemb to get down for the save with follow-up from Monare also saved followed up by a horror strike from Sifiso Hlanti, as Celtic secure back-to-back wins to go third ahead of Downs
