Absa Premiership match report Free State Stars v SuperSport United 10 November 2018

Posted: 10 November 2018 Time: 19:30

SuperSport United got back to winning ways with a narrow 1-0 win over Free State Stars in the Absa Premiership on Saturday night.

Aubrey Modiba had the first chance of the match for Matsatsantsa in the ninth minute after bursting forward and finding space just outside the box to have a strike at goal, but his curling effort sailed over the bar.

Ea Lla Koto were dangerous on counter-attacks after 25 minutes but their combination in the last third was disjointed.

Modiba had a wonderful chance to break the deadlock for Kaitano Tembo’s men in the 31st minute after he was picked out inside the box with a cross from Kamohelo Mahlatsi, but he fired his volley wide.

James Keene should have made it 1-0 to the visitors four minutes before the break with a chance at the back post following a clever free-kick by Modiba but his low strike was saved by Stars goalkeeper Badra Ali Sangare.

Keene finally found the breakthrough for Matsatsantsa seven minutes into the second stanza with a header inside the box following a great cross from Evans Rusike.

United were not sitting back after the hour-mark, particularly using the pace of youngster Mahlatsi down the right wing to pin back Stars into their own half.

Luc Eymael’s charges, meanwhile, were struggling to break down the United defence in the last ten minutes of the encounter.

Mpho Maruping came close to equalising for Stars deep in stoppage time with a chance at close range following a long throw in but his strike was saved by Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams as the hosts lost their second game in a row.
