Absa Premiership match report Black Leopards v Bidvest Wits 01 December 2018

Posted: 1 December 2018 Time: 19:00

Bidvest Wits returned to winning ways with a 1-0 victory over Black Leopards in the Absa Premiership on Saturday night.

Wits started strongly after Gift Motupa produced the first shot of the game, but it failed to find the target.

An appeal for a penalty after a foul on Simon Murray fell on deaf ears, with the match officials waving play on after just six minutes.

Cole Alexander then connected with a long ball to play in Murray who failed to keep the final attempt on target with a wayward finish.

It was all Wits with the earlier action as Murray rose high to connect with a corner kick only to draw a save from Rotshidzwa Muleka with a header.

A run down the wing by Deon Hotto ended up in a cross to Murray, but the Scotsman was unable to finish off as he glided the effort wide of target.

Leopards were relentless in trying to sustain the pressure from Wits, who continued pressing ahead as Motupa missed a free-header from close range following a cross by Sifiso Hlanti.

Great work from Alexander into the middle found him on the end of a chance at the back post off a Hlanti cross, but the end result failed to hit the target.

Seven minutes into the second half, Leopards were forced to make an early change after Lefa Hlongwane replaces Themba Ndlovu.

Wits pulled out all the stops once again when Hotto unleashed a thunderous strike from outside the box, but it sailed wide of target.

The visitors broke the deadlock late on when Gabadinho Mhango found the net from close range to give Wits a big win that moves them up to second.
