Mamelodi Sundowns maintained their unbeaten run in the Absa Premiership with a 2-1 win away to Highlands Park.
Surprise inclusions and exclusions in the starting elevens of both indicated a tantalising affair buoyed by a lively crowd, with Pitso Mosimane deploying Thapelo Morena upfront.
A defensive horror from the home side allowed Morena to sneak behind and go toe-to-toe at goal to beat Kapini with an easy finish on 11 minutes.
Lining up in attack, Morena caused mayhem as he set-up Themba Zwane from the right to finish off from close-range on 19 minutes to double Sundowns' lead.
The former Bloemfontein Celtic man threatened again as he went past one defender to send in a cross for Lebohang Maboe, who saw his shot cleared off the goal-line on 25 minutes.
After the half and hour mark, Highlands reduced the tally courtesy of Lindokuhle Mbatha who easily snatched home from a Denis Onyango slip-up. Minutes later, Peter Shalulile beat the offside trap and out-sprinted the defence to go one-on-one with Onyango, but the Ugandan stood clear to make a save.
Mbatha threatened to complete his brace after cutting in from the left side but his right-foot curler crashed against the underside of the crossbar just before the break.
Sundowns made the game’s first substitution in the second half when Lyle Lakay replaced Liberian international Anthony Laffor after 57 minutes.
Following a slow opening hour, Downs nearly staged a third of the evening when Kekana’s long-range drive required quick reflexes off Kapini who duly obliged.
Moments later, Maboe and Zwane combined expertly inside the box to set-up a chance, but Kapini displayed strong reactions to thwart Zwane to keep the hosts in the contest.
Mosimane's charges were able to see off a late surge from the home side to claim three points and preserve their unbeaten run this season.
