Chippa United added to Free State Stars' woes with a 2-0 victory in the Absa Premiership on Saturday evening at Goble Park.
Stars looked to return to winning ways after a 5-0 hammering at Cape Town City was followed up by a shock first-round exit in the Nedbank Cup.
However, Chippa were keen on extending their upturn in fortunes under their new mentor Clinton Larsen and got off to the perfect start.
A foul inside the box in the 28th minute led to the awarding of a penalty which Rhulani Manzini had no issues dispatching to make it 1-0.
Stars went into the break trailing, and were left with a mountain to climb to prevent their dismal run of form from continuing.
Whilst plotting a way back, Ea Lla Koto failed to find the breakthrough despite throwing on former Kaizer Chiefs striker Mitchell Katsvairo.
There would be no comeback though as Kurt Lentjies finished off the evening’s proceedings with a late finish to ensure Chippa walked away with three points.
