Absa Premiership match report Bidvest Wits v Cape Town City 02 March 2019

Posted: 2 March 2019 Time: 19:14

Cape Town City pulled off a dramatic second-half comeback to defeat Bidvest Wits 3-2 in an Absa Premiership clash on Saturday.

Wits made three changes from their 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in Elias Pelembe, Buhle Mkhwanazi and Lehlohonolo Majoro.

City got off to a bright start when Kermit Erasmus found space on the right side before curling an effort just wide of Darren Keet's upright.

While going through the motions, the Clever Boys grabbed the lead on 28 minutes when captain Thulani Hlatshwayo's towering header got the better of Peter Leeuwenburgh.

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates forward Lehlohonolo Majoro was brought down in the penalty area and earned a penalty before half-time. Gift Motupa doubled the advantage with a calm finish from 12-yards out.

The comeback trail rang for the Citizens, and Erasmus responded when he skipped a challenge to beat Keet from close-range.

Minutes later, it was two when Surprise Ralani poked home following a goal-line scramble after the Students failed to clear their lines.

With 15 minutes to play, Riyaad Norodien made his presence felt once again when his free-kick rattled into the top corner of the net to complete the turnaround.

Late in added time, Leeuwenburgh ensured City walked away with the maximum points with a point-blank save from Granwald Scott’s free-kick as the Clever Boys miss the chance to move top.
