Chippa United extended their winless run to four matches in the Absa Premiership with a 1-1 draw against Highlands Park at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Chippa’s only change saw the return of Tercious Malepe, while Highlands gave a start to Jabulani Shongwe, Peter Shalulile, Ricardo Williams and Spiwe Msimango.
After a quiet opening to the game, Chippa coach Clinton Larsen made an early change, as Mark Mayambela filled the role of Donashano Malama on 31 minutes.
Granted the fearful start, Highlands put their noses in front through a cool finish from Sabelo Nyembe on 41 minutes.
The lead lasted a few minutes, as Lerato Manzini propped up in the danger area to slash home from close range on the stroke of halftime.
As the second half commenced, Chippa were under heavy pressure as Highlands searched for more goals. Though timeous defensive blocks from among others Frederic Nsabiyumva kept the visiting side at bay.
The Chilli Boys threw in the heavy artillery in pursuit of victory with 15 minutes remaining as bulky forward Rhulani Manzini replaced his surname-sake Lerato.
Highlands pushed for the winner, but Ryan Rae failed to profit from a spilled shot by Mbongeni Mzimela on 80 minutes, before Thabo Rakhale flashed a close-range attempt wide four minutes later as the encounter ended goalless.
The result moves Chippa to 14th place, with the Tembisa failing to climb up the ladder from ninth place.
