Absa Premiership match report Free State Stars v AmaZulu 16 March 2019

Posted: 16 March 2019 Time: 12:44

Relegation-threatened Free State Stars thumped AmaZulu 4-1 in an Absa Premiership clash at the Goble Park Stadium on Saturday.

Stars re-called Eleazar Rodgers, Harris Tchilimbou and Martin Kizza to the line-up while 17-year-old Mpho Khabane was handed his debut, as Usuthu instituted only a single change in Phumlani Gumede.

Stars got off to a perfect start when Kizza’s half-volley went through the legs of Siyabonga Mbatha for a third-minute lead.

Usuthu looked troublesome from the edge of the box, as Bonginkosi Ntuli’s low shot forced Samkelo Mbambo to push the attempt away closer to halftime.

In the second half, Ea Lla Koto made the game’s first change with Relebogile Mokhuoane replacing Khabane.

Usuthu needed a defensive clearance from Sibusiso Mabiliso to clear off Mokhuoane’s tap-in from Kizza’s cross as the visitors closed in on a second strike.

Fresh from a Man-of-the-Match display against Bidvest Wits, Somila Ntsundwana came on for Ovidy Karuru in the away’s side first change on 60 minutes.

With 65 minutes played, a piece of magic Mokhuoane gave Stars a two-goal lead as the winger cut in from the left flank before rifling the ball into the far corner.

Chawapihwa reduced the deficit in fine style three minutes later after finding the net with a scorching left-footer from outside the box.

Moments later, Stars received a penalty following a foul on Rodgers who went up to restore their two-goal advantage a minute later.

In added time, Tchilimbou put the icing on the cake after tapping home Nyiko Mobbie’s pass for their first win over Usuthu in six years
