Golden Arrows struck late in the second half to earn themselves a 1-0 victory over Baroka FC in their Absa Premiership clash on Wednesday evening.
Baroka gave a debut to Lawrence Ntswane in their five changes which included Matome Mabeba, Tebogo Sodi and Orebotse Mongae. For Arrows, Maximilian Mbaeva, Sibusiso Sibeko and Siyabonga Dube formed part of three changes from their 2-0 loss to Polokwane City on Saturday.
The home side applied the earlier pressure when Sodi flashed wide from close range following a corner on 10 minutes.
With the game at a medium pace, Arrows broke through but Dube’s header from inside the box steered well wide a minute to the half-hour mark.
With Arrows on the up, Mduduzi Mdantsane came on for Goodman Mosele three minutes to the interval as Baroka pulled the first rabbit from the bench, while Arrows coach Steve Komphela was forced into a change before the break when Velemseni Ndwandwe was unable to continue and Richard Matloga took his place.
Bakgaga Ba Ga Mphahlele wasted no time with a second change in Jemondre Dickens for Siyabonga Vilane, and the former's impact nearly paid dividends but his header sailed wide of Mbaeva’s goal following a corner.
With no side posing any threat, Dickens flashed another header wide before Collins Makgaka’s snap shot failed to get the better of Mbaeva on 72 minutes.
When the clash look destined to end all square, Wayde Jooste popped up in the fourth minute of time added on to snatch victory for Arrows with a stunning effort from the edge of the area.
