Absa Premiership match report AmaZulu v Chippa United 06 April 2019

Posted: 6 April 2019 Time: 19:25

Chippa United boosted their fight against relegation with a 1-0 win over AmaZulu in an Absa Premiership clash on Saturday evening.

Usuthu looked threatening from the onset, with Bonginkosi Ntuli’s seeing his effort cleared off the line by Frederic Nsabiyumva inside the opening 14 minutes.

Ten minutes later, Chippa were ahead when Andile Mbenyane ducked down to guide Kurt Lentjies' delivery past Siyabonga Mbatha.

The KwaZulu-Natal side attempted a come back, but Michael Morton fired straight at Mzimela 28 minutes in after finding space outside the area.

Needing a come back, Usuthu coach Cavin John side instituted the game’s first change on 33 minutes in Marc Van Heerden for Nyongo. But the Chilli boys survived every bit of pressure throwing their way to head to halftime in cruise control.

The hosts pushed for an equaliser early in the second half, as Talent Chawapihwa shaved the side-netting after a cracking strike from close-range, while Siyathemba Sithebe suffered the same fate a few spells later

Togolese-born Sadate Ouro-Akoriko became the latest figure to threaten Chippa’s goal on 77 minutes, but after leaping high, he headed off target as the frustration began to grow for the home side.

Despite the danger signs from the host, Chippa grabbed all the points to move up to 13th place while Usuthu remain in 11th spot.
