Free State Stars coach Luc Eymael cut a frustrated figure after his side were swept aside by Mamelodi Sundowns in the Absa Premiership.
A brace from Gaston Sirino and first league goal for Jeremy Brockie inflicted a 3-1 defeat on Ea Lla Koto, with Harris Tchilimbou getting the consolation.
“We started very well in the first 10 minutes. We prepared well the whole week and it was working at the start. After that my goalkeeper threw away the ball and we conceded," Eymael told SuperSport.
“So you know very well Sundowns wanted to score in the first 20 minutes like they are doing usually and they wanted to make us open up so that they can come at us and its exactly what happened.
On the penalty awarded to Downs, the Belgian isn’t convinced but believes there was also a situation of similar circumstance with a foul on Sinethemba Jantjie earlier on.
“I don’t know if it was a penalty or not but there was a clear foul on Jantjie (in the box) not given so it’s very disappointing,” he said.
Going down 3-0 before 30 minutes prompted a first half change with Maboke Matlakala and Eymael explained his changes didn’t do what he had hoped.
“We tried to play everything forward. We tried to put all our cards forward but it didn’t work. We scored in the first half with Tchilimbou and he is the shortest player and it was only him who was dangerous up front.
“We don’t have tall guys up front what can you do. The substitutions I did didn’t do what I was expecting or could’ve expected,” he said.
