Brockie, a January signing from SuperSport United, broke his drought in a 3-1 win over Free State Stars at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday night.

The New Zealander's struggles in Tshwane have been surprising, given he plundered 54 goals in a three-year spell for Matsatsantsa - three goals shy of the club record held by the late Abram Raselemane.

Mosimane says Brockie, who netted for Sundowns in the Shell Helix Cup against Kaizer Chiefs in pre-season, deserved a change in fortunes given his efforts in training.

"I am happy for 'JB' to break the ice and score that goal," Mosimane said.

"That goal is typical of JB, a snap-shot. He needed the break.

"He has not been around. Sometimes on the bench; sometimes in the stands. I just felt to start him and he came to the party.

"He deserves the break. He has been working hard."

Man of the Match Gaston Sirino scored the other two goals for the Absa Premiership champions, who are unbeaten in the league this season with 17 points from nine games.

Mosimane feels his men are yet to hit top gear despite putting three goals past mid-table Ea Lla Koto.

"We have to be honest and don't look at the goals. We are still yet to be the team we want to be, but we will get there.

"As long as we won it will give a little bit of confidence for the game on Saturday."

Downs are five points behind log leaders Orlando Pirates with three matches in hand, with the sides set to collide at Loftus on Saturday.
