National First Division duo Maccabi FC and TS Galaxy will participate in the 2019 Nedbank Cup Round of 32 for the first time after safely navigating their way through the qualifiers.

Eight qualification matches took place over Saturday and Sunday, as the 16 NFD teams were whittled down to the eight berths available for the Round of 32 fixtures in South Africa’s premier cup competition next year.

On Saturday, a penalty for Xola Mosiea and another goal from Dumisane Mohale earned First Division newcomers Maccabi a 2-1 win over University of Pretoria, securing their spot in this stage of the competition for the first time in their history.

Witbank Spurs progressed after a 1-0 win over Uthongathi, while Richards Bay beat provincial rivals Royal Eagles by the same margin.

On Sunday, TS Galaxy earned their maiden Round of 32 spot with a 5-2 thumping of Ajax Cape Town at Kameelrivier Stadium, with goals from Siyabonga Khumalo, Tshegofatso Nyama, Lucky Setelele and a brace from Snethemba Ngidi dumping the Urban Warriors out of the tournament, while Jomo Cosmos beat Real Kings 2-0 at home.

League leaders Stellenbosh FC were undone on penalties by Mbombela United as TTM beat Ubuntu FC 3-0, meaning bottom-of-the-log Cape Umoya United, under the guidance of new coach Dominic Isaacs, are the only Cape-based NFC club left in the competition after their penalty shootout victory over TS Sporting.
