Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter says SAFA have final decision on his assistant coach

While SAFA have previously stated appointing an assistant coach for Bafana Bafana rests with Stuart Baxter, the head coach has come out to say that’s not entirely the case.
Baxter has been in charge of the national team for over a year, but still does not have a permanent assistant. He has been assisted by the likes of Thabo Senong, Molefe Ntseki, Quinton Fortune and more recently Shaun Bartlett, who has expressed an interest to take up the role on a permanent basis.
Baxter says appointing an assistant does not rest with him.
“Someone called me and said that there have been comments made about me deciding everything. That is not the case. If I was deciding this would have been nailed a long time ago. There are other aspects, political aspects, financial aspects, there are all sorts of things. So it does not rest only with me.
“I’ve given lots of recommendations that for different reasons have not been taken, so I just want to make it clear that it’s a little bit misleading to say that I make the decisions. If I was the one making the decisions, then it would have been done a long time ago. I’ll keep on making the recommendations and shuffling the pack as much I can, to get through each and every game.
“I am delighted with the work Molefe has done, I am delighted with the work Shaun’s done. I think we are on the right path. I think there needs to be continuity throughout the system. Thabo has gone back from working with me in the system and he is doing a good job. I think we should try do the same again. We need to keep that sort of continuity.”
