Sambo left Chippa last year when Eric Tinkler replaced Dan Malesela in the hotseat in August and brought his own assistant coach Vincent Kobola.

Tinkler and his successor Joel Masutha have both since been fired by the Chilli Boys, who are expected to soon announce the appointment of former Golden Arrows mentor Clinton Larsen as their new head coach.

According to a high-ranking official at Chippa, Sambo is due to start work today.

"Sambo is back. He is going to assist the new coach Clinton Larsen," says the official.

The coaching changes have swiftly followed the recent arrival of ex-Baroka CEO Morgan Mammila, who has replaced Peter Koutroulis at the relegation-threatened club.

Meanwhile, United have targeted a handful of signings in the January transfer window in their bid to avoid the drop.
