Absa Premiership match report Golden Arrows v SuperSport United 10 February 2019

Posted: 10 February 2019 Time: 13:38

SuperSport United moved up to sixth spot with a 3-2 victory over Golden Arrows in the Absa Premiership on Sunday afternoon.

Arrows coach Steve Komphela made two changes in Danny Phiri and Lerato Lamola, whilst United made three in Clayton Daniels, debutant Mxolisi Machupu and Evans Rusike.

SuperSport managed to carve out a couple chances in the opening 20 minutes, with Rusike going closest with an effort that was cleared off the line by Nkosinathi Sibisi.

Rusike wasn’t to be denied seven minutes later when he met a cross from Aubrey Modiba to beat Nkosingiphile Gumede with a point-blank header.

Two minutes later, Matsatsantsa’s tally increased when Machupu’s header from Mokoena’s supply left Gumede scrambling while the ball hit the bottom corner.

Under siege, Arrows changed their make-up and brought on Musa Bilankulu for Wayde Jooste after 32 minutes.

For the second half, the two sides made no changes at the break as Daniels was called to clear a goal-bound shot from Lerato Lamola.

United conceded a penalty on 56 minutes following a poor tackle on Lamola by Dean Furman, which Knox Mutizwa slotted home to reduce the deficit.

Seth Parusnath levelled proceedings four minutes later when his glancing header found the bottom corner off a left-footed cross from Danny Venter.

Lamola aimed to finish off a pacey move from the left after bombing into the box, but Williams got down to make a save two minutes later.

United regained ascendancy in the closing stages and Teboho Mokoena’s stunning long-range drive crept underneath the reach of Gumede to hand SuperSport three points on the day.
