George Lebese was so excited to be on the pitch again as he made his debut for SuperSport United in a 3-2 victory over Golden Arrows at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Sunday.
It was Lebese’s first appearance of the season, after spending the entire first half of the season, plus last month, twiddling his fingers on the sidelines at Mamelodi Sundowns, waiting for an opportunity to play. That opportunity, however, did not seem as though it would ever come, so the best option was for him to make a move to Tshwane rivals SuperSport.
Within less than two weeks of being with Matsatsantsa, Lebese has been given some minutes on the pitch and he could not be any happier. He came on as a substitute for Aubrey Modiba in the 67th minute.
"I'm happy to be back on the pitch, it something I spoke about with coach Tembo, I'm here to contribute on the team and enjoy myself," he said after the game.
"There's no pressure for me, I'm here to enjoy my football. I'm not focusing on any negatives."
Lebese made some comments about his time challenging time at Mamelodi Sundowns during an interview on SABC radio, and when asked if he's worried about his future after making some of the statement, the player just said he wants to move on.
The loan spell ends in June and Lebese did not want to say whether or not he wants to stay with Matsatsantsa going forward and not return to Sundowns.
"About [the] comments, those are in the past and I want to move on from those challenges, do what I do best and the rest will follow,” the former Kaizer Chiefs man said.
"I'm happy at this club. I won't really comment on the future, everything will be decided by how I work as a player."
Supersport coach Kaitano Tembo, meanwhile, was really impressed with Lebese.
"George hasn't played for months, sometimes players lose confidence and fitness, but I think he didnt lose any of those.
“We need to be patient with him, he did very well on the game and I'm so happy. We have a quality player in him, same as Mxolisi Macuphu."
