Pitso Mosimane says being top of the log plays with your emotions

Posted: 13 March 2019 Time: 10:09

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane believes the Absa Premiership champions will be decided on the last day of the season, as the title race gets tougher every week.

Mosimane was speaking after his side's 2-1 win over rock-bottom Maritzburg United at Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday night.

'Jingles' said being on top of the log doesn't really excite him for now because things can change quickly.

"The top of the log thing will play with your emotions, it will stress players. You're only there for a few days, it's a very tough league, I prefer not to lead and come out at the right time," he explained.

"Hence I give credit to Bidvest Wits for being on top for 20 games if I'm not mistaken [Wits have been top for 18 rounds in total]. Orlando Pirates too had a chance to be there at one stage but gave it away to Wits again."

Mosimane, who is one of most successful coaches in the Absa Premiership, was asked for his thoughts on the title race as it gets interesting with seven games remaining.

"In my opinion it will go down to the wire, for us [and Orlando Pirates] in the CAF Champions League we might have a challenge. I've said it before, teams that have more opportunities are Bidvest Wits and Cape Town City, also don't write off SuperSport United, they can win it," he added.

The Brazilians coach was also asked if he is surprised by the fact that the Wayne Arendse verdict has not been concluded.

"I had a case that only came out a year later, when Percy Tau was still playing, this Arendse thing happened a long time ago, it comes out now. What are you saying about it?" Mosimane asked the media.

"Do you ever write about it and question why they take so long? As Sundowns we will make sure we win [the league] by three-plus points, to be on the safe side."
