Bernard Parker confident of ending Kaizer Chiefs trophy drought

Kaizer Chiefs striker Bernard Parker believes there’s one critical element that could set them on their way to ending their domestic barren run this season.

Chiefs are on the verge of extending their record run without silverware to four years, should they fail to deliver anything from the two remaining trophies on offer.

Though the Absa Premiership is a far stretch at this stage, with eight points separating the Glamour Boys from leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and just seven games to play, Parker has urged his clubmates to cling to their slim hopes while also gaining momentum in their charge for the Nedbank Cup, in which they next face Cape Town City in the quarterfinals.

“It’s for us to believe. If we believe, anything is possible [because] we’ve got the quality, the best technical staff, the best facilities and resources,” said Parker.

“It’s just for us now as players to give our everything week-in and week-out for the remaining matches, and I know for sure that if we do that, our quality will show automatically.

“We’re still in it for the Nedbank Cup – it’s something that we can see, it’s just for us now to stretch ourselves all the way so that we can touch it and reach it.”

‘Die Hond’, who recently penned a contract extension with Amakhosi, also stressed the value of the mental work the technical team has been doing behind the scenes.

“The technical staff have been very supportive and working a lot on our minds, doing so much mentally in our preparations that right now we’re aware that the mental side of our football is the most important at this stage of the season,” he concluded.
