Kaizer Chiefs defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele says the club has no shortage of experienced players who have won silverware before and can guide the youngsters.

Chiefs’ trophy drought has become a dark cloud hanging over the club and is beginning to affect the players and staff in its entirety, with defender Daniel Cardoso having earlier admitted that prospective players even lose interest in the midst of their lack of success.

But they are currently just two matches away from ending this four-year dry run, with a Nedbank Cup semi-final against Chippa United on the horizon.

Going the distance, however, will certainly require tact in some instances where experience lacks, specifically amongst the contingent of players that have yet to taste glory in their careers.

Mphahlele is confident though, that there are enough characters in the squad to compensate therefore and play a big role in guiding such players when the time comes.

“Look, it’s difficult when you go a long time without winning, but we have players who have won and we have a coach who has won before,” said Mphahlele.

“It’s not about individuals, it’s about us as a team to say, ‘Okay, let’s help each other and try and achieve something we haven’t achieved in a long time.’

“That’s the goal, and we’re going to try and do that. We have guys who have won – senior players, and we’re helping the youngsters.

“We have to take that responsibility as senior players and say, ‘This is where we want to go, let’s help them get there.’”
