Espanyol 2-1 Alaves
Espanyol managed to see out a late onslaught from Deportivo Alaves to seal a 2-1 win at the Cornella-El Prat Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Adria Pedrosa put the Catalan club in front on 19 minutes before Victor Laguardia doubled their advantage with an own-goal two minutes in the second half.
Alaves looked to snatch a draw through Jonathan Calleri’s 56th minute effort, but the hosts sustained the late pressure to rank up the points for a 10th spot sitting.
Atletico Madrid 2-0 Celta Vigo
Atletico maintained their title hopes with a 2-0 victory over Celta Vigo at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.
Goals either side of the half from front-duo Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata wreaked more misery on the struggling visitors who are just two points off safety.
With league leaders FC Barcelona playing to a goalless draw at SD Huesca earlier in the day, Atleti reduced the gap to nine points.
Sevilla 3-2 Real Betis
Sevilla returned to fourth place after an entertaining 3-2 victory over Betis at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Munir put the hosts ahead on 26 minutes, with Giovanni Lo Celso levelling for Betis on 55 minutes before Pablo Sarabia restored Sevilla’s lead after 59 minutes.
Argentine Franco Vazquez handed the White and Reds a two-goal advantage on 63 minutes, however Cristian Tello set up a nervy finish with an 82nd minute effort.
